Health Education with KidPower @Rice

Tommy and I served as assistant youth health educators at the Nehemiah Center in Houston’s Third Ward with Rice University’s KidPower

Uplift Education Vaccine Clinic (August 2022)

My ventriloquist puppet, Tommy, and I volunteered at Uplift Summit International Preparatory to help the kids get their Covid-19 shots. Using puppet therapy, I was able to lower their anxiety and fear levels so that they could successfully receive their vaccination.

Isla Urbana Summer Program (June 2022)

My team and I installed a rain-water harvesting system at a house/store in Tetacalanco Mexico City, CDMX for a family whose parents lost their jobs during the pandemic. Tommy provided comic relief for their four-year-old boy and encouraged the morale of us student installers.

Nutrition Presentation Series At North Hills Kindergarten (2022)

Over 3 days, I taught the Kindergarten classes at my K-12 school the importance of nutrition with the MyPlate Diagram. With Tommy’s help, I got them to draw a MyPlate replica on paper plates and quizzed them on the lesson.

Christmas Visit to Medical City Dallas and Ronald McDonald’s House (2019)

On Christmas day, Tommy and I spread holiday joy to the kids awaiting critical surgeries at local children’s hospitals and the Ronald McDonald’s House.

My brother and I regularly return back to our former preschool, and we take the chance to give back to the children there by reading books to them with Tommy.
